La Laguna is an old industrial site in Mexico City that has been periodically renovated by Productora into an art and cultural center. The studio brief builds on top of (literally and rhetorically) La Laguna, calling for the introduction of exhibition spaces on the roof.
The incremental additions of exhibition space on the roof of La Laguna calls for a unifying element that brings together discrete autonomous spaces. Playing into the iconography already present at Laguna (the Hejduk-ian stairwell tower), this project proposes 5 separate exhibition spaces and an auditorium, unified by a ring walkway. The current roof of the building has remained an underdeveloped area with a series of dead ends. The loop seeks to connect unused areas of the roofscape while tying together the proposed exhibition spaces into a coherent whole. While providing a new circulatory path, the loop offers a new vantage points of experiencing the building and surrounding streetscape. |
