Rocks and minerals grow in an organic manner, but some possess geometric formal qualities. Using a controlled set of operations and digital commands, we gained ownership of the forms that initially were dictated by natural forces.

FROM QUARTZ TO OBJECTThe project began with a photo of a piece of quartz that was reproduced in Rhino. Depending on what specific digital operations are taken to reproduce the original, varied end products are created. For example, if two different individuals were given the same image of quartz and asked to reproduce the mineral in the digital, the results would be strikingly different (as was the result in our course). The two were almost unrecognizable as having originated from the original image.
